How to Play Air Hockey

Your paddle follows your mouse or finger and stays on your own side of the table. Move into the puck to strike it. The faster your paddle is moving on contact, the harder the shot. Hitting the puck off-centre sends it away at an angle, which is how you bank shots off the side walls and around your opponent's paddle.

Defending matters as much as attacking. Sitting slightly in front of your own goal covers the most angles, and letting the puck come to you gives a much cleaner strike than lunging at it.

Two-player games use exactly the same controls for both sides. There is no keyboard sharing and no second control scheme to learn. Each player uses their own device: one mouse or one finger each, on their own half of the table.

What Are the Rules to Air Hockey?

The rules here follow standard air hockey, simplified to what a browser game needs. There are only a handful, and the game enforces all of them for you:

• Stay on your own half. Your paddle can never cross the halfway line, so you can't block your opponent's goal directly.
• Strike, don't carry. You hit the puck by moving into it. Paddle speed at the moment of contact decides shot power.
• A goal is scored when the puck fully crosses the goal line into the mouth. The rest of the rim is solid and the puck rebounds off it.
• After a goal the puck returns to the centre and is served toward whoever conceded, so the player who was just scored on gets possession.
• First to 10 goals wins a 1v1 match by default, and you can set it to 4, 7, 10 or 15 before you start. On the 4-player table everyone has 3 lives instead, and the last player left wins.

There are no fouls, no time limits and no topping, if the puck stalls somewhere nobody can reach, the game returns it to the centre automatically.

There are no room codes or invites to send. Matchmaking pairs whoever is waiting, so the simplest way to play a specific person is to open the site and both press Play Online at the same moment, you will normally be matched with each other.
