This Privacy Policy describes how PlayAirHockey.com ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses and shares information when you play our game or visit our website at playairhockey.com (the "Service").

By using the Service you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Display Name (Nickname) — You may type any name before playing. We do not require your real name. In online matches this name is shown to your opponent for the duration of the match. It is stored only in your browser's local storage and is not linked to any account or persistent identity.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage & Analytics Data — If analytics is enabled we use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymised information about how visitors use the site: pages visited, session duration, device type, browser, operating system and approximate geographic location (country/region). This data is aggregated and not linked to personal identities.
  • IP Address — Your IP address may be processed by our analytics provider, our realtime provider and our host (Vercel) for security and delivery purposes.
  • Local Storage — We store your chosen nickname, your selected difficulty and a local match history (wins/losses) in your browser. This never leaves your device. See our Cookie Policy.
  • Multiplayer Connection Data — During an online match, paddle positions, puck position and the score are transmitted through Ably's infrastructure. This data is transient: it is used only during the active match and is not stored afterwards.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the game and match you with an online opponent
  • To remember your preferences between sessions
  • To analyse usage trends and improve the game
  • To detect and prevent abuse
  • To comply with legal obligations

3. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third parties as necessary to operate the Service:

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

PlayAirHockey.com is a general-audience game. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). The display name entered before playing is chosen freely by the user and is not linked to any real identity.

5. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of data we hold about you
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion — request deletion of your data
  • Objection — object to certain types of processing
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of analytics — via browser settings or Google's opt-out add-on

6. Data Retention

Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months. Local storage data (nickname, difficulty, match history) remains in your browser until you clear it. Multiplayer session data is not persistently stored by us.

7. Data Security

We use HTTPS for all traffic, secure response headers (HSTS, CSP) and reputable third-party infrastructure. No system is 100% secure, so we encourage you not to use your real name as your in-game nickname.

8. International Transfers

Our service is hosted in the United States. Our analytics and realtime providers also process data internationally. By using the Service from outside the US you consent to this transfer. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses where required by GDPR.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent change. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
